Music That Won’t Be Deleted…
Okay, I still have some stuff to sort through, but in the meantime, I’m gonna give you a list of music that is freakin’ sweeeet.
1. After Edmund – These guys are incredible. The vocals are incredible — singing some great melodies and singing them well. Very interesting songwriting, and they are great live. If you only get the chance to check out one song, listen to “Clouds”
2. Air Traffic – Sort of bad production, but it is some freakin’ fun music. A little bit of piano-based rock ‘n roll.
3. The Album Leaf – a great ambient/electonica band. Very organic sounding, though – not overly electronic like some bands in their genre.
4. As Tall As Lions – these guys are great. Kind of Lovedrug-like, but a little more melodic. Interesting drum patterns, interesting vocal layering. A good bit of falsetto. “Song For Luna” is a particularly good song.
5. At the Close of Every Day – Another ambient/electronica band. They’re sounds are much more on the glitchy side, with a lot of interesting stutters. The guy’s voice kind of annoys me, but he doesn’t sing on every song, so its okay. This is great homework music…
6. The Bad Plus – I’m not a huge jazz guy, but these dudes are good – very creative in the whole jazzicle madness. Originally recommended by Bwack (from David Crowder Band), its safe to say that the drummer is incredible.
7. Beastie Boys (The Mix Up) - I am recommending them solely on the account of their newer album “The Mix Up”. Basically, you’ve got all of the guys playing their own instruments and making some crazy-groovin’ music. Kind of reminiscent of the Oceans’ 11 soundtrack.
8. Bright Eyes (I’m Wide Awake, Its Morning) - this guy writes some of the most amazing lyrics in the world. Very clever, and thought provoking. Musically, this album is kind of an indie/alt country/folk mix. Well produced, it is one of those albums you’ll find yourself singing along to.
9. Brook Fraser (Solo Works) – Okay, if you know me, you know that I have a bit of a crush on this music-phenom from New Zealand. She sings for Hillsong United now. Basically, she’s got a beautiful voice (click here to see her doing some sort of a jazz whatever performance). Her solo works are kind of reminiscent of Michelle Branch (admit it, you like her) with some very well written lyrics and a bit more of an indie bent.
10. Castledoor - okay, these guys an EP coming out called “Follow the Dove”, and from what I’ve heard so far, it is great. Kind of an interesting story behind the guys and gals in this band. Two of the guys in this band were former members of the embarrassing Christian boy band “Plus One” (though, their CD Exodus is seriously awesome — trust me on this one, this is no joke). Well, now they are poor freakin’ indie artists living on Ramen. This band is essentially made of the two guys and their wives and then someone else (he’s not important). But this is some of the most interesting music I’ve heard in a while. Very interesting instrumentation and great vocals.
11. Chris Thile – This one might be a little harder to sell, but give it a try. He’s one of the best (if not the best) mandolinists in the world. His solo CD “How to Grow a Woman From the Ground” is an amazing mix of some pop and some bluegrass. I know, I know, bluegrass is stupid you say. Seriously, give it a try. If you don’t like the song “You’re an Angel and I’m Gonna Cry”, you can kick me in the crotch.
12. This is going to be a 2-for-1. Cold War Kids and Copeland. The reason they don’t have their own section is because if you haven’t heard of them yet, I will personally burn your place of residence down. I just wanted to put them here to reiterate that they are still unbelievably good.
Okay, so that brings us up to the letter “D”. I might continue this sometime. I don’t know. Or maybe I will just go downstairs, take a stick of butter, melt it in the microwave and pour it all over my muscular body. I mean, there’s no telling what will happen next.
