Dotted 1/8th on a Line 6 DL4…

Alrighty…here’s the first installment of what I hope to be many tutorials/video blogs.  I found that it is a little strange recording a video of yourself…man…I look and sound like a big idiot.  Anyway.

This will be of particular interest to guitarist (pretty much everyone else just won’t care).  This is addressing the fact that the Line 6 DL4 delay pedal does not have a dotted 1/8th setting, which is essential for playing many worship songs as well as pretty much every U2 song (I kid, of course).  So here it is…

If you are the type who counts (with the meter of the song), then the dotted eighth would be something like this (tap on the bolds):

1-e-and-A, 2-e-and-a, 3-E-and-a, 4-e-and-A.

  1. It would help to be able to see what timing you are strumming with your right hand

  2. I’m sorry – that probably would have helped…
Basically, what I’m doing is just playing eighth notes (2 notes played per beat). I oscillate between the b (6th fret) and the g string (5th fret). So basically, it is 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and….

  3. I know you will want to delete my comment once I post this…but matty I love you! You are the biggest nerd I know besides my hubby! haha you crack me up!

  4. to me it sounds like the delay is rushing the click track a little bit. It is very hard for some guitar players to beat out the dotted eight, my would sound more like super-triplets ( a three against two feel). I know the echopark has a dotted eight setting. Have you tried it and would you think it’s easier?

  5. Yeah, I had the echopark for a while. I like it, I just needed more flexibility (I was used to having 3 presets on my DL4). It is solid, and sounds great. The fact that it has a dotted 1/8th setting on it makes this whole ordeal so much easier…but like I said, you can’t change anything on the fly…

  6. hey dude…thanks for the video…and I love the look of your blog…what’s the delay setting you’re on? the rhythmic delay? thanks, Justin

  7. No, I have the delay set on the Digital Delay…mix at about 50%, Tweak at 30%, Tweeze at 80-100%.
